WACHBATAILLON — GERMANY

The Wachbataillon is stationed in Berlin, Germany, and is responsible for representing the country through military honours while also securing and protecting the government if needed for states of defence.
The Wachbataillon’s work is divided into two major functions, the ceremonial function and the infantry function. To fulfill their infantry function, soldiers are trained with the capabilities of army infantry, air force security forces, and naval protection forces. Their ceremonial function reflects their prestigious position in supporting Germany and the German Armed Forces at home and abroad, with their drill team has appeared at the Nova Scotia Tattoo many times in the past in this capacity.
The responsibility to fulfil these missions simultaneously and with equal excellence – between protection and representation – makes the Wachbataillon a very unique unit within the German Armed Forces.
